I had thought this game halted, but there’s this sudden explosion of information and I am finding it impossible to temper my excitement, to lower my expectations. 2011 is shaping up to be an excellent year video game wise.

❝Imagine Borderlands set on the Just Cause 2 island,❞ Destructoid says ❝with Left 4 Dead style zombies, featuring a quest system similar to Falllout 3 and the weapon system of Dead Rising 2. Blend all of that together and you get Dead Island; or, as Deep Silver refers to it, a first-person zombie slasher action RPG.❞

They appear to be stressing the survival aspect of Dead Island, too. Characters do not immediately know how to fire a gun (allegedly a limited weapon anyway as the game is mainly melee), they cannot automatically wield a blade or an axe and they’ll tire, they’ll lose stamina from swinging weapons at these beasts.  Skills improve as the game progresses.

So,

• compared to arguably five of the highest-rating games this gen
• four player online co-op
• real survivors (normal people), real survival
• most anything can be used as a weapon
• SKILL TREE; ability upgrading, new skill learning, RPG aspects
• gorgeous, vivid graphics
• multi-plat
• open world
• QUESTS
• TONS OF GORE. GORE EVERYWHERE.

You know what, Deep Silver and Techland?

TAKE IT.
